In case you missed Paul’s blueberry pruning workshop:
Blueberry bushes that have not been pruned on an annual basis may become overgrown and less fruitful, so it’s important to train young blueberry bushes to promote proper structure for maximum fruit production. Here are some helpful tips:
1. All diseased and broken canes should be removed first.
2. No more than two or three mature canes should be considered for removal.
3. Remove branches that are touching and any dead twigs.
4. The bush should be a) narrow at base b) open in the center c) free of vegetative clutter
Mastering the pruning of blueberry bushes takes time and practice. So keep working on it! Feel free to come in and talk to Paul if you have any questions or concerns!
