“Winter is finally upon us, but here at Sprucedale Gardens we are preparing for spring! Seeds and plants are ordered and we’ll soon order tags and pots. Soil for putting on plants is already here and waiting.
What do we do all winter? Besides placing orders, we compile our planting schedule, do our taxes, make advertising plans, repair greenhouses and organize our office. The greenhouses are cleaned (we even vacuum leaves off the floor) in preparation for receiving new plants in late February. We check the plants that are packed away outside in our over-wintering houses for watering needs and mouse/vole damage.
This winter Paul and his friend Brian Hagstrom, of Old School Carpentry, are building an addition to our sales building. We will have a lovely new bathroom for employees and customers, as well as an employee break room and storage area.
Paul’s beehives did well this year, so we will have lots of honey to sell next spring! As you can see, we are busy all winter and ready to see you again in April!” – Joyce Larson
