The first greenhouse, 1995

Our nursery now

The story of Sprucedale Gardens

How did it all begin? After purchasing land and building their home, Paul and Joyce Larson began Sprucedale Gardens in 1995. With small children to raise, and Paul working off-site, they started small. By 1999, Paul was working at Sprucedale full-time and the business and their children were growing. Like many family-owned businesses, at various times their children worked at the nursery – cashing out and assisting customers, moving plants, or picking pumpkins! Their children are now grown, and grandchildren are on the scene.  In spring 2022, the Larsons will celebrate their 28th year in business.

Sprucedale Gardens Nursery currently has 3 heated retail greenhouses and 4 heated growing greenhouses, and 9 overwintering greenhouses. In 2012, Paul and Joyce took over Paul’s uncle and aunt’s online alpine geranium business (larsonsgeraniums.com) and added European alpine geraniums to their retail mix.

“We are happy to report that our adult children all know the value of farms and growing things. While we have more office work than we used to, we still love getting back into the greenhouses and out into the nursery every spring. We aim to provide you with the best new plants for your garden and landscape. We hope you will find as much joy in growing things as we do!” -Paul and Joyce Larson
